After 20 plus years of successfully practicing medicine, Dr. Fred A. Lecheler is retiring. Dr. Raymond Rowan is taking over the practice and all of the existing staff is remaining. Dr. Rowan has the knowledge and experience to help ensure that you will leave the Stellar Foot & Ankle Center pain free. Dr. Rowan treats patients of all ages using many of the latest advancements in conservative and surgical treatment options to address each patient's specific, individual needs.

"I am very excited to be here in the New Smyrna Beach area, and to have the opportunity to work with the amazing patients of Volusia County that look to Stellar Foot and Ankle for their podiatry care. We will continue to use the most advanced medical and surgical techniques to provide our patients with the highest level of care."

Summer is around the corner, and though we still need to observe COVID precautions, it is so healthful to get outside and to enjoy the sunny weather. But let’s not forget to take care of our feet. Following are four suggestions by the American Podiatric Medical Association that I found particularly compelling.

1.  Your feet can get sunburned! So remember to apply sunscreen all over your feet, especially the tops and fronts of ankles. I’ve seen many suspicious lesions on feet that have been sunburned repeatedly.

2.  Wear shoes or flip-flops around the pool, to the beach, in the locker room and even in your hotel room and bathroom to prevent injuries and limit the likelihood of contracting bacterial infections.

3.  Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day. Drinking water will not only help with overall health, but will also minimize any foot swelling caused by the heat.

4.  When siting for long periods of time on the beach or poolside, for example, keep blood flowing with periodic ankle flexes, toe wiggles, and calf stretches. I’ve had some patients report that these simple exercises can cut back on leg muscle cramps.
